The longest cruise ship ever to visit the Great Waterfront City arrived in June, bringing a ‘Six Star’ holiday experience to Portsmouth International Port.
At just under 240 metres long Crystal Symphony certainly made her presence felt, taking full advantage of an extended berth designed for larger modern vessels. The 50,000 ton cruise ship is owned and operated by Crystal Cruises, which offers some of the world’s most luxurious holidays at sea.
The impressive ship arrived on Friday 9 June at the end of a cruise around the British and Irish coastline. It is the first time that Crystal has chosen Portsmouth International Port, either as a port of call or as a turnaround facility. The cruise team at Portsmouth had been working closely with Crystal to make sure every single detail was perfect for passengers.
800 passengers were able to explore the city and its world class attractions. The guests then spent their last night of the cruise alongside at Portsmouth International Port, before disembarking for the journey home.
Crystal Symphony sailed out of Portsmouth International Port on Saturday 10 June, cruising past the Historic Dockyard and the Emirates Spinnaker Tower on its way to Zeebrugge in Belgium. It was one of four cruise ships to come calling in June, with Silversea’s Silver Explorer visiting twice in the same month.
The luxury ship, that has a hull strong enough to break ice, has a crew to passenger ratio of 1:1. It’s a great example of the smaller explorer ships that are making use of the first class facilities at Portsmouth International Port.
Silver Explorer’s arrival on 8 June was perfectly timed for the annual CLIA Expo at the Port. Each year CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) organises for some of the country’s top travel agents to visit Portsmouth International Port to learn more about explorer cruises, and some of the incredible experiences that can be had on a holiday that includes the Great Waterfront City in the schedule.
The travel consultants were briefed on developments at Portsmouth International Port, and the wonderful array of attractions found on the doorstep.
