• Caen is only and hour and a half away along the E46, opening up a whole other place for exploration. If you want to end your journey in Caen, you can always take your return ferry to Portsmouth Port from there.

• La cite de la mer is in the thick of the town, located on Gare Maritime Transatlantique, and offers a great day of sea discovery for all little adventurers. There are tunnels and tanks exhibiting all types of fish, and it also houses a decommissioned nuclear submarine.
• To stay with the sea theme, dining in the contemporary quayside La Marina Cherbourg is a must. It features some of the best local seafood, presented in attractive ways.
• The Ludiver Observatory and Planetarium thrills those with an interest in astronomy with their ‘virtual guide’. It is located in Les Pieux, a short drive away.
• The Liberation Museum examines the significance of the famous Battle of Normandy and the destruction it had on the area. It is a fascinating day out for all to understand the region’s rich history.
