Once your ferry crossing to Le Havre arrives, you are right in the middle of a whole host of activities and opportunities for exploration. The port city is on the mouth of the river Seine, and has the name ‘Door to the ocean’ which is true of this city.  In 2005, Le Havre was declared a world heritage site for its post war-era architecture. The Normandy bombings destroyed much of the city, which has seen it completely restored since.

Upon stepping off your Le Havre ferry you are in the midst of the action. ‘Le Havre’ means ‘The Port’, and the city is famous for its beautiful harbour, so stop and admire it before you move on to other activities.

Le Havre is a favourite with tourists eager to make the most out of the town. There is easy access directly from Portsmouth to Le Havre by ferry. Travelling by car ferry to Le Havre allows you to have the convenience of your own car to explore the local area with ease.

• From Le Havre Ferry Port, the town centre is a 10 minute bus journey hop on a  bus marked “Centre Ville”
• The Normandy Bridge links Le Havre to the rest of France. Le Havre is about 200km from Paris, take the A29 or A13 motorways and then the A131
• Caen is only 80km away
• Disneyland Paris is 230 km away
• The town’s own beach is located just 500 metres away from the town centre and stretches for over two kilometres
• The beautiful city of Honfleur is only 24km away, which is a short half an hour journey in the car.

Le Havre’s worst kept secrets
• The Cathedral was built in 1536, and is the seat of the Bishop of Le Havre
• Church of St. Joseph, one of the most recognized symbols of the city. The bell tower is one of the tallest in France, rising to a height of 106 metres. It was designed by Auguste Perret
• The Musée des Beaux-Arts André Malraux, is a strikingly modern building housing a range of impressionist art, including Monet, for all keen art lovers!
• Foot and cycle paths run along the coast, allowing for wonderful views from all areas.
