REPORTS OF OIL POLLUTION IN THE PORT OF SOUTHAMPTON, SOUTHAMPTON WATER, THE SOLENT AND PORTSMOUTH HARBOUR

1. IN ORDER THAT oil pollution may be effectively dealt with, mariners, occupants of recreational craft and other persons sighting significant patches of oil on the water in the Port of Southampton, Southampton Water, the Solent and Portsmouth Harbour are invited to report the sighting giving the position, extent, description (e.g. light film, slick, heavy black, crude etc) and the direction of movement if possible. Very small patches of oil of an insignificant nature should not be reported.

2. Reports may be made as follows:

a. In the case of mariners to either:

i). Harbour Master Southampton - (Callsign "Southampton VTS") VHF Channel 12 or 14. Telephone 023 80 488671/2 (Office hours); 023 80 339733 (Out of office hours)

ii). Queen's Harbour Master Portsmouth - (Callsign "QHM") VHF Channels 11, 13. Telephone 023 92 723694.

b. In the case of occupants of recreational craft or other persons, to HM Coastguard, Solent (Callsign "Solent Coastguard") VHF Channel 16 or 67. Telephone 023 92 552100

3. Reports will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for action.

4. This Notice to Mariners is promulgated jointly with the Port of Southampton.
