RN Hulks Safety Zones

 

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that military training will periodically take place on the RN hulk vessels moored in Fareham Lake.


  2. For the safety of all mariners a 50m safety zone is established around these vessels for these exercises which will be activated in accordance with the nature of the training taking place. These operations may include, but not be limited to, helicopter and diving operations.


  3. When the safety zone is activated a safety boat will patrol in the area and in keeping with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS), Rule 27, the following signals will be displayed by all the vessels concerned:-

    1. By day – Three shapes in a vertical line where they can best be seen. The highest and lowest of these shapes shall be balls and the middle one a diamond. In addition, International Code Flag “A” and/or “Red Danger Flag” will be displayed as appropriate.


    2. At night – Three all-round lights in a vertical line where they can best be seen.
      The highest and lowest of these lights shall be red and the middle light shall be white.

    If there is any doubt as to the safety zones status, clarification may be obtained by contacting QHM Harbour Control on VHF Ch11 or by telephoning 02392 723689.

  4. When the safety zones are activated, mariners navigating in the vicinity of the above vessels should proceed with caution and obey any orders given by the safety boat(s).
