LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS

TEMPORARY EXCLUSION ZONES – DOCKYARD PORT OF PORTSMOUTH

 

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that  X-Ray surveys on RN ships’s hulls and other unusual trials (including  communication systems) take place from time to time within Portsmouth Naval Base and the Dockyard Port. A temporary exclusion zone may be established at short notice around affected vessels in order to safeguard personal health and safety. This area could, on occasions, extend up to 150 metres to seaward around ships alongside, at anchor or secured to a buoy.

2. On the occasions that an exclusion zone is established the ship being tested will have a Ministry of Defence police launch in attendance and will display the appropriate signals / lights to signify a vessel conducting special operations whilst maintaining a listening watch on VHF Channel 11.

3. QHM Portsmouth will transmit details to the general public via the NAVWARN network and by informing affected shipping on VHF channels 11. 

4. All vessels in the immediate vicinity of these exclusion zones must follow any instructions given by attending Ministry of Defence Police personnel.
