  • The health and safety of those travelling through the Port is paramount. Portsmouth was the first port in the UK to offer life saving assistance to anyone unfortunate enough to suffer a heart attack while travelling and defibrillators are available throughout the Port.

Volunteers from across the Port community, including the ferry companies, stevedores and support staff, have completed a four-hour competency-based programme devised by the Department of Health. Training in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to provide electric shock treatment to people in cardiac arrest is being delivered by ambulance services and all volunteers will undergo reassessment every six months to ensure skill levels are maintained.
