Portsmouth Port will be welcoming a brand new ship from LD Lines as of November this year. Currently being built in Italy, the vessel will double the capacity that LD Lines currently offers on the Portsmouth - Le Havre route.
The new Visentini built ship will carry up to 800 passengers and 120 lorries. With 107 four-berth cabins, 200 car spaces, 2,300 metres of trailer space and measuring over 186 metres in length, the Norman Voyager will be larger than LD Lines' Norman Spirit that currently operates between Portsmouth and Le Havre. With a top speed of 24 knots, the new ship will also be faster.
Current sailings between Portsmouth and Le Havre are run overnight, but the introduction of the new ship will allow for daytime sailings to occur between the two cities, providing greater flexibility for passengers and freight operators.
Port Manager, Phil Gadd, is looking forward to the Norman Voyager's arrival: It's a fantastic new ship that we're delighted to be welcoming to Portsmouth. At the moment, there is one daily departure to Le Havre during the weekdays, but the introduction of this new ship means that LD Lines will be able to operate a second daily departure, doubling capacity. It's great that LD Lines are making the most of the benefits and connections of our Port and we will be making investments to ensure the facilities at the Port best accommodate Norman Voyager.
Pierre Gehanne, CEO at LD Lines, commented: "With the demand for the Portsmouth - Le Havre route being so high, it made sense to put this new ship onto the route. We're really pleased with the way things are working at Portsmouth Port and the connections that it offers both to the rest of the UK and to Europe are excellent."
